Spearheaded by the Training and Research Section, the UP Manila Human Resource Development Office conducted a 5-hour orientation program last March 14, 2023, in collaboration with the other three HRDO sections: Recruitment, Selection and Placement Section, Appointment and Records and Statistics Section, and Leaves and Benefits Section, and invited organizations namely the UP Provident Fund, All UP Workers Union-Manila, and All UP Academic Employees Union-Manila. The New Employee Orientation Program (NEOP) will enable new employees of the University to be accustomed to their new workplace environment and familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of the University to stand true to their sworn duties. This orientation program is part of HRDO’s constant effort to localize and support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: SDG4. The orientation was held through an online platform via Zoom, participated by a total of 26 employees from different Colleges and Units/Offices of UP Manila.

 

The orientation started with an opening program, followed by an activity of getting to know each other to set the mood for an engaging session. The opening program was followed by a 1-hour discussion of the Supervising Administrative Officer of HRDO, Jorel A. Manalo, PTRP, MPH, where he defined the University’s Vision and Mission, and discussed the Core Values and Quality Policy of the University to ensure that all employees meet the agreed quality management standards. The discussion also included the UP Manila Officials and Organizational Structure, HRDO Organizational Structure, and the call to follow the University’s Rules and Regulations on Wearing of Office Uniform, Proper Conduct and Behavior, Attendance and Schedule, and List of Activities organized by UP Manila to be attended by its employees.

 

The part two of the orientation was led by the Section Head of the Appointment, Records and Statistics Section, Arvy John L. Crescini, where he discussed the First Salary Requirements, Performance Target and Evaluation, and SALN; enjoined by Loudellee S. Arellano with the discussion on the processes and use of University Information System including the HRIS, FMIS, and SPCMIS, and useful information provided in the HRDO Websites.

 

The last part of the program for the morning session was discussed by the Section Head of the Leaves and Benefits Section, Derick Dimpsy V. Palacio, where he talked about the Benefits and Privileges of the Administrative employees and  University’s Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS), specifically the monetary and  non-monetary benefits, leave benefits, facilities and services, Government mandated benefits and other optional membership that employees are granted with.

 

The afternoon session was dedicated to the invited organizations: UP Provident Fund (Speaker: Prof. Arturo Benedicto M. Ilano, Fund Operations Officer), All UP Workers Union-Manila (Speaker: Maria Elizabeth D. Ladeza, AUPWU Board of Director), and All UP Academic Employees Union-Manila (Speaker: Prof. Reginald S. Vallejoes, AUPAEU President), where they introduced the services and products they offer, as well as their respective achievements that will benefit the new employees.

 

The orientation program was formally closed by the Training and Research Section Head, Jeah May O. Badeo, who thanked and recognized all the people behind the success of the orientation program, especially the participants and the resource speakers. At the end, Ms. Badeo shared the upcoming webinar prepared by her team to participate in the whole month celebration of women in the University, particularly the Women Empowerment and Managing Diversity in the Workplace Webinar.
